Well, this was my first time ever fishing a Saltwater ChatterBait, and I have to say, I was almost impressed. Please, let me explain.

It’s been cold here in Florida, which is to say that the temperatures have been in the 50’s on the farenheit scale. I know, it’s all relative. But either way it was far too cold for me to go fishing. So I decided to search the internet for baits that I’ve never fished before. From time to time I do that just to ensure that I’m carrying the right baits in my limited kayak fishing tacklebox where space is at a premium.

Chatterbaits

I mean, I like chocolate, and I love peanut butter, and thus it should come as no surprise that I love Reese’s peanut butter cups!

So I thought to myself, redfish like spoons, so maybe I should try one of those. It’s on the list. I also know that redfish love paddle tails because that’s what I fish a lot. So, why wouldn’t a redfish love a ChatterBait? I mean, I like chocolate, and I love peanut butter, and thus it should come as no surprise that I love Reese’s peanut butter cups! My guesss was that fishing a ChatterBait would be like giving candy to a redfish. I think that’s how the saying goes.

Well, it was and it wasn’t. But I attribute much of that to the difficult conditions in the marsh! Every kayak fishermen that I encountered that day, let me know that, “nothing is biting” and that they “got skunked.” But it was warm, and the only day I could go out, so I hopped in the truck and headed to the marsh.

I’m glad I did, as although for the most part my fellow kayak anglers were right, I happened to land a beast. Now, to be certain, I’m not sure if it was the fact that I was in the right place at the right time. Because as we all know, 90% of fishing is simply finding the fish. Or if it was the bait that I was using that enticed the monster to eat. All I know is that it was awesome to catch a fish, from a kayak, on a beautiful day in February!

So, the jury is still out. I need more warm days to try out this bait before it’s earned a spot in my tacklebox!

Z-Man Saltwater Chatterbait

I was using Z-Man’s Saltwater Diezel Chatterbait as well as their ChatterBait Eye Strike Jig Head and several Diezel Minnow paddle tail trailers. Now unfortunately when I was purchasing the jig heads I must have missed the weight selector because these are too big and too heavy for the trailers I was using! That said, I hope the right combination works for you too!

Hobie Eyewear – Bayside

As you know from the video, this year I’m going to essentially wear a different pair of Hobie Eyewear Fishing Sunglasses in each video. Honestly, I’ll probably repeat a few from time to time.

In this video I’m wearing the Hobie Bayside model and I’ve got to tell you…. Hobie is the exclusive provider of my eyewear this year … these sunglasses are no joke. My frames are satin black and the lens color is grey. They’re very comfortable, and very high quality! I highly recommend them.
