Have you ever wondered how to pick the right lure? The lure that on that day will put more fish in the boat? If so, you’ll enjoy this video. I’ll take you through my four step match the hatch process for picking the right lure, and I’ll demonstrate that it truly works!
Oh, and understanding these steps, and the waters you fish, will also help you with the challenge of picking the right lure out of the sea of lures hanging on the rack! I mean, how do you know which lure to purchase? The steps I’ll quickly walk you through in this video will help you make better purchasing decisions too!
Let’s go see what we can catch!
The Backstory
This video was a fun one to film. First, it’s been a while since I was able to get out on the water! The temperatures here have dipped below 60* and that’s a little too cold for me to be out there. So, on the first few warm days in a row I enjoyed donning the shorts and making that trip to the marsh.
I got out there and, as you see in the video, I filmed a bunch and then made my first cast and wow, did those four steps I used to pick the right bait really work! Matching the hatch does mean more than just picking the same type of bait! But, the reality of the day, was that that was the only fish I caught! I made another trip to the marsh a few days later, some of that footage is mixed into the video as well…you can tell when the sky brightens up a bit… but again no fish. Oh well, it’s not always catching fish that make it fun! I guess that’s why they call it fishing and not catching!
On a sad note, you’ve all just witnessed my last trip to the marsh in my 2019 Hobie Compass. She’s now found her next happy home with one of my subscribers. What platform will I use next? Stay tuned for my next kayak fishing addict adventure!

Hi Ron,
How are you bro?
I have only seen you thru your videos, but I am just going to throw it out there, I would like to go fishing with you one day.
I’m as lost as can be, I have no idea what I’m DOING !!! (kayak fishing)
So if you can , lets make it happen. Send me an email
and thanks for the opportunity.
Roy.
Hi Roy,
I hear you! It can be a bit of a struggle when you’re first starting. I haven’t been out in a while but I’ll be back into it soon. In the interim, start simple. Use a paddle tail on a jig head and get out there and throw it around. Enjoy the surroundings and try not to get too frustrated that you may not be catching something…trust me, you will. When you do, note what you did, where you threw the lure too, how you retrieved it, and why that fish may have been there. Then try to pick similar conditions and see if you get another bite. When I’m out there again you’ll know it because I’ll post new content. Ping me then.
Tight lines,
~ron
