Today I’m kayak fishing with the Z-Man Diezel MinnowZ rigged with an Eye Strike Texas Eye jighead. It’s absolutely the best Texas rig setup for your soft plastics!
As you know, I’ve recently switched over to Z-Man soft plastics and Eye Strike jigheads for kayak fishing and I’m sure glad that I did. Today I decided to throw a variation that I haven’t shown you in the past. The Texas Eye Jighead has a phenomenal design. It is essentially a worm hook with an articulating jighead connected to it. In addition, it has large eyes which fish target and it has the best bait keeper in the business. And no, I’m not sponsored (currently) by Z-Man! Together, this results in the most life like, realistic looking soft plastic presentation you can have with very little effort. What’s even better, is that it puts fish in the boat!
Backstory
It was an overcast day all day but the fishing was good. The tide was high initially and moving down. I actually got a later start than I wanted, but hey, life gets in the way of fishing sometimes. There are a few drone shots in the video that were shot a few days earlier. It was way too windy to put the drone up!
All in all, it was an enjoyable day of fishing. I don’t believe I lost any fish on this custom jighead. Aside from the flounder you see in the video that I didn’t want to land anyway. I’m not sure if that’s because with the combination of the Texas Eye jighead and the Diezel MinnowZ 4″ bait you don’t have to skin hook it to make it weedless. The split dorsal fin of the Texas Eye is ingenious in that it hides the hook point until the fish squeezes it.
I’m super happy with the Z-Man lineup and I’ve all but declared that the test between it and my old DOA baits is now over.
